Nowadays, Developers are the most desirable employees. Unfortunately, we’re talking about programmers with almost 2 years of experience - not juniors. Those have to take things in hand - actively looking for a job, sending a lot of CVs and trying to prove their skills.
Let us show you what is worth doing when you’re looking for a job in IT.
1. Take care of your CV
First, update your CV. Your CV is an introduction to business and a key part of your personal marketing - so it’s worth spending more time to make a perfect resume.
Start with introducing yourself - your summary is especially important if you don’t have any experience. At this point try to interest the recruiter with your knowledge, skills and achievements that will match the position you are applying for. Yes, a CV must match the offer if you want to move on to the next stage - what does it mean? You should check your CV with every application and think about all the important information about you that may be important for the company you are applying to.
2. Update your LinkedIn profile
If you don’t have LinkedIn yet - don’t hesitate and sign up. LinkedIn is a very important source for recruiters, especially in the IT industry.
LinkedIn is like your virtual CV which gives you many opportunities to present yourself well. If you want to be found by recruiters, remember about keywords. For example - if you are looking for a job as a Junior Developer and you specialize in Java, write in your headline “Junior Java Developer looking for opportunity” not “Student of Harvard University”. Make sure to add skills relevant to your dream job and link your portfolio, repository or projects.
3. Be active in social media related to your dream industry
We currently have many social networks that connect people with the same passions.
Developer - join GitHub and Stack Overflow
Designer - sign up in Dribble or Behance
There are also many forums, groups on Facebook and others in which you can connect with people from the industry, meet them and learn from them.
If you found the perfect company where you want to work -be creative! Don’t limit yourself to sending a CV and waiting for responding forever.
Try to find a better way.
